NOTE:
Products that are not installed with SCO OpenServer by default
are noted. These products can be installed
after initial system load using the Software Manager,
as described in
``Installing software''.
SCO OpenServer runtime products
Products listed in this section are included on the
SCO OpenServer System CD-ROM:
Apache Web Server-
The Apache Web Server has been integrated into SCO OpenServer,
replacing the Netscape FastTrack server.
SCO OpenServer includes the /etc/apache startup script,
with options to enable/disable and
start/stop the Apache web service.
This version of Apache includes support for XML, PHP,
ASP, and other popular Apache technologies,
such as mod_perl.
You can access the Apache documentation from
the Internet Services link on the DocView home page.
BIND-
BIND has been updated to version 8.2.5,
and all of the security patches from version 8.2.6 have
been applied.
See
``Configuring the Domain Name Service''
for more information.
Java Runtime Environment-
The Java Runtime Environment is now installed by default with SCO OpenServer.
Previously, the JRE was only available from the
UDK CD-ROM.
OpenSSH-
OpenSSH, a suite of network connectivity tools
that encrypts all traffic to eliminate eavesdropping,
connection hijacking, and other network-level attacks,
is now included with SCO OpenServer Release 5.0.7. The OpenSSH
suite includes the
ssh(1)
program (replacing rlogin and telnet),
scp(1)
(replacing rcp), and
sftp(1)
(replacing ftp).
For more information on these OpenSSH tools,
see the Section 1 manual pages or the following URL:
www.openssh.org/manual.html.
OpenSSL-
OpenSSL, an Open Source toolkit implementing
the Secure Sockets Layer (SSL v2/v3) and
Transport Layer Security (TLS v1) protocols,
as well as a general purpose cryptography library,
is also included with SCO OpenServer Release 5.0.7.
A user-level command for performing a variety
of cryptographic functions, openssl, is also
provided. For more information on OpenSSL,
see the OpenSSL manual pages, including
ssl(3)
and
openssl(1),
or see the following URL:
www.openssl.org.
Perl-
Perl has been updated to version 5.8.0, which includes
enhanced Unicode and threads support, the
new I/O subsystem called PerlIO, and many bug fixes.
For more details, see the following URL:
www.perl.org.
sendmail-
sendmail has been updated to version 8.11.0.
Highlights of this version include:
-
Added vigilance for set*uid(), setgid(), setgroups(), initgroups(),
and chroot() calls.
-
Outgoing (client-side) SMTP Authentication mechanisms limited to
those specified in AuthMechanisms to prevent information leakage.
-
Safe file checks now backtrack through symbolic links.
This ensures that the files cannot be compromised due to poor
permissions on the parent directories of the symbolic link target.
-
Only root, TrustedUser, and users in class t can
rebuild the alias map.
-
All file descriptors (besides stdin, stdout, and stderr) are closed
before restarting sendmail.
Also in this release, the sendmail.cf file
has been updated to version 9 to provide better anti-spam capabilities.
An M4 configuration file has also been included.
See
``sendmail administration''
for more information.
Squid Web Proxy Cache-
SCO OpenServer Release 5.0.7 now includes Squid,
the high performance proxy cache for Web clients.
This product is not installed by default.
After you install Squid,
you can access the documentation from
the Internet Services link on the DocView home page.
Volution Manager Client-
Caldera Volution Manager is a web-based systems
management product that runs on Caldera OpenLinux® 3.1.1 servers.
Volution Manager can manage SCO OpenServer systems through
the use of Volution Manager clients. The Volution Manager client is
included with SCO OpenServer Release 5.0.7 and is automatically
installed as part of the base operating system.
For information on enabling the Volution Manager
client and using Volution Manager to perform
a variety of administration tasks on your
SCO OpenServer system, see
``Managing SCO OpenServer systems with Caldera Volution Manager''
and
``Managing your system with Caldera Volution Manager''.
Web Browsers-
SCO OpenServer Release 5.0.7 provides two new web browsers:
-
the graphical Mozilla web browser
-
the character-based Lynx web browser
For more information on using these products, see
mozilla(1)
and the following URL:
lynx.browser.org.
SCO OpenServer Optional Services

the SCO OpenServer Optional Services CD-ROM and
must be installed separately. New Optional Services
products include:

wizard for remote administration
-
numerous enhancements and bug fixes over previous releases
For more information about Samba features and administration, see:
-
the /info/samba/readme.html file on the Optional Services
CD-ROM
-
the Samba documentation,
available from the Windows and NetWare Connectivity link
on the DocView home page
after Samba is installed
NOTE:
SCO also offers SCO Advanced File and Print Server (Advanced Server), a UNIX-based network
operating system that interoperates with systems running
Microsoft® Windows servers and Workstation.
Although Advanced Server and Samba are comparable, the former can be
administered from Windows systems using Windows tools, while
Samba administrative tools use UNIX and web-based conventions.
The two products also implement authentication and security
management differently, although authentication is compatible.
Consult your SCO representative to determine which product
is most appropriate for you.

NOTE:
Applications compiled with the versions
of libc and libm
that are included with the SCO OpenServer Release 5.0.7 Development System
will not run on pre-Release 5.0.7 systems,
unless the following supplements are installed:
-
