New and improved hardware support

Enhancements to SCO OpenServer hardware support are described in the following sections:

Device and peripheral support

• New processor and chip set support, up to speeds of 4Ghz, including:

  • Intel^® Pentium^® 4 processors

  • Intel Xeon processors

  • AMD Athlon XP processors

  • AMD Athlon MP processors

• The Universal Serial Bus (USB) features of SCO OpenServer Release 5.0.6 have been replaced with a UDI-based implementation that includes:

  • USB 2.0 support for EHCI Host Controllers

  • USB 1.1 support for OHCI and UHCI Host Controllers

  • Bootable USB CD-ROM support

  • Support for the following USB devices: keyboards, mice and other pointing devices, CD-ROM drives, floppy and LS-120/LS-240 drives, mass storage devices, and hubs. (Note that this USB implementation does not support USB printers and modems.)

• The Uniform Driver Interface (UDI) has been updated and is now fully integrated into SCO OpenServer. See ``Using UDI drivers'' for more information.

• The wd driver now supports the Ultra Direct Memory Access (UDMA) 100 and 133 settings. For information about available bootstrings, see the wd(HW) manual page.

• PCI serial and parallel card support for legacy-free platforms is now available. See ``Adding serial and parallel ports'' for information on configuring these devices.

• IDE and USB LS-120 and LS-240 drives are now supported. See the Sflp(HW) manual page for more information.

• Underlying support for EIDE CD-RW commands has been added to the wd(HW) driver. The cdrtools CD recording software, including the cdrecord and readcd tools, is available on the SCO Skunkware collection. (See ``SCO Skunkware'' for information on how to download the current SCO Skunkware CD-ROM image.)

• The MultiTech modem definitions have been updated.

Mass storage device support

SCO OpenServer Release 5.0.7 now includes support for the following mass storage devices:

• Compaq Ultra160 SCSI Smart Array Controllers -- see the ciss(HW) manual page.

• Intel Ultra160 SCSI Server RAID Controllers -- see the iir(HW) manual page.

The following drivers have been updated with bug fixes:

• Adaptec ad160 driver

The following HBA drivers are no longer supported by SCO, however they are still provided with SCO OpenServer for your convenience:

Video adapter support

SCO OpenServer Release 5.0.7 includes the following updated video adapter drivers:

• The mtx driver has been updated to include support for the Matrox G450 video adapter. All functions of the G450 adapter work with SCO OpenServer, expect the multi-headed and multi-display features, which are currently not supported.

• The r128 driver has been updated to add support for the ATI RAGE 128 PRO II GL video adapter.

• The e3H driver has been updated to add support for 3Com 3C982-TXM 10/100 Dual-Port Server NICs.

• The e3G driver has been updated to fix a problem with interrupts on SMP systems.
  

• The eeE driver has been updated to add support for the Intel 82562X chipset.

• The pnt driver has been updated with a variety of bug fixes, as well as new support for the Laguna 4 chipset.

PC Card Support

SCO OpenServer Release 5.0.7 now provides new PC Card (PCMCIA and CardBus) support that includes PC Card socket services, card services, and client-enabled device drivers.

New and updated PC Card device support includes:

• The new pcic driver, which enables existing SCO OpenServer SCSI, network, and serial drivers to work for PC Cards.

• The following new PC Card network drivers:
  
  c575b -- 3COM 575 series adapters
  p574c -- 3COM 574 series adapters
  pcpsm -- 802.11b wireless adapters

• The updated d21x driver, to add CardBus support.

• The updated e3E driver, to add support for 3Com 3C589E series PC Card adapters. This driver continues to work for 3C589D and earlier cards on SCO OpenServer Release 5.0.6.

• The updated nat driver, to add support for several new PC Cards, including D-Link DFE-650 Fast Ethernet, LinkSys EtherFast 10/100+56K LAN/Modem multifunction, and NETGEAR FA410 10/100 Mbps NICs.

• The following new PC Card HBA support:
  
  Adaptec SlimSCSI 1460 PC Card adapter (smad driver)
  Adaptec SlimSCSI 1480 CardBus adapter (alad driver)
