Adding the PPP protocol stack

You must add the PPP protocol stack before trying to use a PPP link.

When you start the PPP Manager, it notifies you if the PPP driver is not installed. To install the driver, select Yes when prompted; you must relink the kernel and reboot before the new driver can be used.

You can also add the PPP stack with the Network Configuration Manager. To do so:

1. Log in as root on the machine on which you want to configure the PPP stack, and run the Network Configuration Manager.

2. Select Add new WAN connection from the Hardware menu.

3. Select SCO TCP/IP PPP driver from the list of WAN connection types, and press Continue.

4. Select SCO TCP/IP from the list of networking protocols that can be used with PPP, and click on Add. This invokes the PPP Manager.

5. To add a PPP endpoint, follow steps 4 through 6 in ``Adding a PPP link endpoint using the PPP Manager''.

   To defer configuring endpoints, click on Cancel. A message appears indicating that the PPP driver has been successfully configured.

6. Select Exit from the Hardware menu.

7. Select Yes when prompted to relink the kernel, and enter y at the two prompts that appear shortly after.

8. Shut the system down and reboot it by using the System Shutdown Manager as described in the SCO OpenServer Handbook. Remember to select Reboot after shutdown when using the manager.
