One or more of the system login record files
/etc/utmp, /etc/wtmp,
and /etc/utmpx have been corrupted.
They can be emptied
without affecting the system. Perform these steps:

Log in as root and enter single user mode.

Delete the contents of these files by executing the
these commands:
> /etc/utmp
> /etc/wtmp
> /etc/utmpx
-
Shut down the system and reboot the system.
