Most problems involving NFS network services lie in one of the following areas:
| Command | Function |
|---|---|
| rpcinfo(NADM) | displays RPC information from a specified RPC server. Use rpcinfo to make sure theportmapper (/etc/portmap) is running and to ensure the Network Lock Manager is running. If exporting filesystems, the mountd service should be registered. |
| showmount(NADM) | displays the clients that have remotely mounted filesystems from a specified server. |
| nfsstat(NADM) | displays statistical information about NFS and about Remote Procedure Call (RPC) interfaces to the kernel; can also be used to reinitialize this information. |
| netstat(TC) | displays statistical information about TCP/IP; it is particularly helpful for identifying physical network problems. |
| ping(ADMN) | reports roundtrip time and packet loss statistics. Use ping to ensure a network connection can be made between hosts. |
