tunek(ADM)

tunek -- tune system resources appropriate to number of users

Syntax

/etc/tunek -l <license type> -n <number>

Description

The tunek command automatically adjusts the default values of system resources to values that are more appropriate for the number of users on the system. It runs automatically during initialization or when you add a new User License Pack or an SMP license to the system, but may not run when you upgrade from an earlier release of the operating system.

The accepted options for tunek are:

-l <license>: Specify the license type. Valid values are user and cpu.
-n <number>: Specify the number of users for the license. If <license> is cpu, this must be set to 1. If <license> is user, this can be 10, 25, 100, 500, or 1000. No other values are accepted.

For example, to tune an upgraded system for 100 users, type:

   /etc/tunek -l user -n 100

After running tunek, you must relink the kernel:

   cd /etc/conf/cf.d
   ./link_unix

The changes will take effect only when the system is rebooted.

The tunek tuning is incremental. In other words, if you run the command again using the same parameters show above and then relink the kernel, it will tune your system for an additional 100 users. You must relink the kernel after each invocation of tunek to properly increment the system tuning.
