dptr(HW)

dptr -- DPT host adapter device driver

Description

dptr is the device driver for the entire line of DPT host adapter cards. It includes multi-channel, wide SCSI, and PCI support, and supports all SmartCache III, SmartCache Plus, and SmartRAID products. For technical support, upgrades, purchases, or product information, contact DPT at (407) 830-5522 in the US.

A curses version of Storage Manager is available for the SCO OpenServer system that allows you to configure and monitor your RAID system. Obtain this directly from DPT. If you want to install the SCO OpenServer system, you must create the RAID system first by running Storage Manager for DOS. Once you have configured your RAID system using Storage Manager, you can add RAID to an existing system or install RAID on a new system using the dptr driver. See Compatible Hardware Web Pages. to determine the support status of your host adapter, or contact your system supplier.

Configuring the dptr driver

You can configure the dptr driver using entries in /etc/conf/cf.d/mdevice and /etc/conf/sdevice.d/dptr. See mdevice(F) and sdevice(F). Changes to these files take effect once you relink the kernel using link_unix(ADM) and reboot the system.

Configure dptr driver-specific characteristics by editing the /etc/conf/pack.d/dptr/space.c file.

Boot time configuration of SCSI

Use the bootstring(HW) parameters to override the default hardware configuration information. Of special interest are the adapter= parameter that specifies information for the host adapter card that plugs into or is part of the motherboard, and the periph= parameter that specifies information about the host adapter being used by one of the generic peripheral interfaces (Sdsk, Srom, or Stp).

The dptr driver supports the dptr.isa=1 bootstring, which enables ISA support for DPT SCSI devices. This support has been disabled in some operating system releases.

ioctl commands

The dptr driver supports all standard SCSI ioctls that are defined in the <sys/scsicmd.h> header file and documented on the scsi(HW) manual page.

Diagnostics

These error messages associated with dptr may display on the console. See messages(M) for general information about kernel error messages, including a list of generic device driver errors.

WARNING: dptr: Adapter n does not support BusMaster DMA
The adapter has not been set to support DMA.

WARNING: dptr: Host adapter n timeout, resetting
The host adapter timed out and had to be reset.

WARNING: dptr: Port 0xm internal failure, status=0xn
Self test detected an error on a host adapter register.
