Using the DOS component
To start up the DOS component of IPX/SPX, perform the following steps:
-
Reboot the machine to load the necessary drivers and TSRs.
Make sure that IPXODI and NVT have been loaded
correctly. The following messages should appear as part of the output
from the boot sequence:
NVT LOADED OK
-
Establish a connection with the SCO OpenServer system.
Bring up the NVT menu by pressing the hot-key assigned to
NVT on configuration.
(The NVT menu screen may be moved by pressing the
SHIFT key along with any of the arrow keys.)
NVT displays a list of server names.
-
Select the server to connect to from the list by highlighting
it and pressing <Enter>.
The NVT window disappears when a connection is made.
If a connection is not made, select another server
to connect to or see your network administrator.
-
Run a terminal emulator that supports
INT14 (BIOS)
or INT6B/UB-NETCI.
The SCO OpenServer system displays a login prompt.
You can now log into the SCO OpenServer system.
NOTE:
NVT only supports one active connection at a time.
An active connection is one in which the process is writing
to the terminal. Any attempt to access more than one active
connection may cause the system to freeze, necessitating a
reboot.
(The active NVT connection will not be dropped
during the reboot.)
