Administering SCO IPX/SPX

Displaying the server information table (track)

Applications need to know about the services available on a network and the address through which their services can be accessed. SAP agents maintain this information in the server information table. It provides clients with the addresses of all the servers on the internetwork. For more information about the server information table, see ``Service advertising''.

track can monitor the current state of the server information table. The NetWare SAP Monitor and showsvcs can list selected information from the server information table that you can use to monitor and validate the network names, addresses, and services offered by servers on the network.

To display the information currently in the server information table, run track with the command line:

track tables

track writes the contents of the server information table to /etc/ipx.d/sapd.out.

The output from track looks like this:

For each known server on the network, track outputs the following information:

Type
Novell object type of the service being advertised. For example, 9E advertises an NVT server, 4 advertises a Novell file server. For more information on Novell object types, see ``Novell object types''.

Hops
The first hop value indicates the number of hops to the advertised server. The second hop value indicates the number of hops to the machine that was the source of the hops information.

Address
IPX address of the advertised server. The first number is the network number. The second number is the node number. The third number is the socket number.

Timer
Time in ticks to reach the advertised server.

connectedLan
Address of the connected LAN segment.

This output provides information about the services offered across the network and the location of these services. To obtain more information about these services with the NetWare SAP Monitor and showsvcs utilities, see ``Displaying available NetWare services (showsvcs)''.
