Registering domain names
If you or any user at your site plan to receive or send
mail outside of your organization, you should register a top-level
domain or subdomain with the InterNIC Registration Services.
Even if you are only using UUCP, registration with the
InterNIC is your only guarantee that the name of
your site is unique.
To register a top-level domain and subdomain name call or
write to the Network Information Center (NIC)
standards organization at this address:
Surface mail:-
Network Solutions
Attn: InterNIC Registration Services
505 Huntmar Park Drive
Herndon, VA 22070
Telephone:-
1-703-742-4777 (7:00 AM to 7:00 PM EST)
Email address:-
hostmaster@internic.net - host, domain, network changes, and updates
action@internic.net - computer operations
mailserv@rs.internic.net - automatic mail servers
Network address:-
198.41.0.5 (RS.INTERNIC.NET)
The earlier your site enrolls a domain name and InterNIC Registration
Services gives you an address, the less likely it is that you will have to alter
a machine name or other site identifier later.
