Using other operating systems with an SCO OpenServer system

Installing Linux and SCO UnixWare 7/Open UNIX 8 partitions

This section describes the process for installing SCO OpenServer and SCO OpenLinux operating systems on the same computer.

NOTE: You can use the steps in this section as a guideline for installing partitions for other variants of Linux, as well as SCO UnixWare 7 and Open UNIX 8. However, in place of Step 4, refer to your Linux documentation or the boot(1M) manual page in the SCO UnixWare 7/Open UNIX 8 documentation for details on configuring that product's boot loader to work with SCO OpenServer.

Install SCO OpenServer into the first partition on the root drive, as described in ``Installing or upgrading an SCO OpenServer system''.
NOTE: Do not use a third-party disk partitioning product to partition the hard disk before installing the desired operating systems. If you do, you may need to start over by running a low-level format of your hard disk.
Install SCO OpenLinux into the next partition. During the installation, select to install the Grub boot loader into the master boot record.
When the SCO OpenLinux installation completes, do not reboot the computer.
Log in to SCO OpenLinux as root.
Edit the /boot/grub/menu.1st file and add the following section:
```
   title = SCO OpenServer
   root (hd0,0)
   chainloader --force +1
```
In this section, ``hd0'' represents the root drive and ``0'' is the partition where SCO OpenServer is installed.
Reboot the computer.
