Migrating PPP configuration to SCO PPP from Morning Star

SCO PPP from Morning Star is included on your SCO OpenServer CD-ROM. It must be installed as a layered product after installing SCO OpenServer. To install SCO PPP from Morning Star, use the Software Manager, following the instructions in ``Installing and managing software components''. You do not need an additional license.

After installation, use the Internet Manager to configure your dial-in connections. The PPP configuration files of SCO TCP/IP are not directly compatible with SCO PPP from Morning Star but can be used for reference.

If you install SCO PPP from Morning Star, use of the PPP features of SCO TCP/IP is not supported.

Migrating from an SCO PPP configuration

To migrate from an SCO TCP/IP PPP configuration to an SCO PPP from Morning Star configuration:

• Save these files for reference:

  /etc/ppphosts
  /etc/pppauth

• Configure an outbound PPP connection for each remote host to which your system will connect, as described in ``Using a modem to connect to the Internet''. You can use the entries in your saved /etc/ppphosts file when filling in the Internet Manager page. The entries are described completely in ppphosts(SFF). Refer to the saved /etc/pppauth for the PAP/CHAP authentication information, as described in pppauth(SFF).

• Configure an inbound PPP connection as described in ``Using a modem to connect to the Internet'', again using the entries in the saved /etc/ppphosts and /etc/pppauth files for reference.

Migrating from an existing SCO PPP from Morning Star configuration

To migrate from an existing SCO PPP from Morning Star configuration:

• Save these files on a floppy disk before installing SCO OpenServer:

  /usr/lib/mstppp/Autostart
  /usr/lib/mstppp/Accounts
  /usr/lib/mstppp/Auth
  /usr/lib/mstppp/Systems
  /usr/lib/mstppp/Devices
  /usr/lib/mstppp/Dialers.local
  /usr/lib/mstppp/exec.in/*
  /usr/lib/mstppp/exec.out/*

  (Some of these files and directories might not be present on your system.)

  For an example of creating a simple shell script to save these files to disk, see ``Example sendmail backup'' earlier in this chapter.

• Install SCO OpenServer, then use the Internet Manager to restore your basic system configuration.

• Restore the saved configuration files.
